Paul Bugyi, LCSW, PhD

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and graduated from New Mexico State University in 2020. For the past seven years, I have worked at an agency in New Mexico serving children who have experienced trauma and their families. I have particular expertise in supporting parents whose children struggle with behavioral and attachment issues, including helping families understand and change difficult patterns in the parent-child relationship.

I also work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma in the context of relationship difficulties. Much of my work in this area has focused on helping people who have experienced abusive, controlling, or emotionally damaging relationships. Treatment focuses on understanding these relationship patterns while developing skills such as emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, and communication.

I recently moved back to the Buffalo area after living on Long Island for 15 years and in New Mexico for five years. I graduated from Stony Brook University in 2014 with a PhD in Sociology and have taught sociology and criminology for over 20 years. My research on families eventually led to a career change and an interest in mental health and family therapy in 2018.

I enjoy online gaming with friends I’ve met from all over the world. I also enjoy making pottery, jogging, and playing golf.
